Watercolor 101 - Molly Murrah (creativelive.com) - week 5

( #watercolor #paper #creativelive #artistic #burgener ) Week 5 - Lectures 24-28 In the 5th week of lectures the main focus was about different technique. Using salt to remove some of the paint when it is wet, to make a snowy background.  (Remove the salt when the paint is dry.) Splattering - take a paintbrush with paint in it and hit it against your hand to allow paint to fall from the bristles onto the paper in a splatter style (on wet or dry paper for different effects).  You can also spray the splatter after to create a new texture.  (beach scene, rocks) Dry Brush - Your brush should be very dry and then just put the tip of the brush into the paint. Scraping - using razor blade, credit cards, or other stiff edge object. (use thicker paints) (rocks, mountains) Use a sponge for tree branches... Use alcohol to create a fish-eye effect. Use sandpaper to remove paint from the paper hills. Reserving your white and lifting paint. (masking fluid apply ...

Watercolor 101 - Molly Murrah (creativelive.com) - week 4

( #watercolor #paper #creativelive #artistic #burgener ) Week 4 - Lectures 19-23 In the 4th week of lectures the main focus was about transferring images to your watercolor paper.  Contouring an image was practice and using grids was used to transfer images.  A short discussion about 1 and 2 point perspective was covered.  The instructor told the class to go find images and to look at if they were in 1 or 2 point perspective. Tony Couch: 7 Elements of Design Shape Size Line Direction Texture Color Value Salt Effect in water color is all about timing.. Too early, Too late, or just right. Play with the rule of thirds... don't put thing just in the center of the paper. Play around with cropping to create interesting images. ©2019 Artistic Burgener

Learn to Draw Still Life - Amy Wynne (creativelive.com)

( #still #life #artistic #burgener ) In this course Amy talks about composition and negative space.   Composition: Even amount of objects can cause a problem, such as us vs them. The line up of objects can cause a flat composition. Clustering objects together vs apart Cropping the image Rule of 3rds Arranging object to create movement of the eye throughout the image Depth Depth created by object overlap Don't create kissing - space between objects are small enough that they look like they are touching horizontal placement scale change - smaller = far way / larger = closer vantage point - high vs low vantage point Value make a monochromatic version of your picture to get a better understanding of value in the image (use your phone to take a picture and use a filter to remove color) divide the value into at least 5 different levels create a tonal map Lighting Try to have one light source Start with your lightest lights and darkest darks...

( #drawing #crosscontour #artistic #burgener ) In Drawing Fundamentals: Cross Contour Lines and Ellipses - Amy Wynne course on creative live we are taught about Ellipses and Cross Contour Lines.  We practice them by drawing cups, eggs, and cylinders.  It is brought together by using the information to draw a banana. ©2019 Artistic Burgener

Drawing Basics - Cleo Papanikolas (creativelive.com)

Image
( #draw #drawing #artistic #burgener ) https://www.creativelive.com/class/drawing-basics-cleo-papanikolas In this course she starts off with the class tracing an object from their desk on a blank piece of paper.  They then make adjustments to the object that was just traced. She indicated that many have a tendency to want to go shopping before they start on sketches to get the perfect materials.  To this she replied, "Start sketching before you go shopping." Material you should have: any paper, standard pencil, and a dust brush (chip brush or other) to remove particulates. The class moved onto tracing a collection scissors.  Then clean up the collection with different line quality.  The classes definition of line quality is: how the line is drawn such as solid vs not solid, clean vs shaggy, and thickness of the line. The class moved onto how to shade an object with shadows. Shading categories: hatch, crosshatch, stipple (dots), blend, edge, scumb...

Learn to Draw An Introduction - Amy Wynne (creativelive.com)

Image
( #draw #drawing #contour ) In this course from creativelive.com, Amy Wynne provides a introduction to drawing.  She starts off talking about standard drawing material such as pencils, pens, charcoal. Lesson 2 moves onto seeing the shapes and how adding water over your drawing can cause shadding with some materials.  She want you to focus on creating contour lines, through blind or semi-blind contour drawings. Lesson 3 is about negative space and how space between objects determine your composition.  She has you practice shading the negative space and composing a drawing with a pair of scissors. Blind or semi-blind Contour drawing. Lesson 4 is about seeing a block, cup, or egg in 3D.  With the egg she use cross-contours to mimic the curve of the egg.  We use the cup to see the different ellipses that are created different viewing points.  We use the block to look into 1-point and 2-point perspective. Lesson 5 is about measurements....

Watercolor 101 - Molly Murrah (creativelive.com) - week 3

Image
( #watercolor #paper #creativelive #artistic #burgener ) Week 3 - Lectures 13-18 In 3rd week of lectures different types of paper is discussed (rough, cold press, hot press, and yupo).  The projects for this set of lectures is to use the different types of papers.  Below you can see the different papers that I tried.  I found that the hot press paper acted similar to the yupo paper (plastic like surface). Watercolor paper size: Full Sheet      22” x 30" 1/2 Sheet       15” x 22” 1/4 Sheet       11” x 15” 1/8 Sheet       7.5” x 11” 1/16 Sheet     5.5” x 7.5” Then on a piece of cold press paper, we were to practice doing different types of washes as seen below. © 2019 Artistic Burgener
